Trying to compare FoodSaver models can be frustrating because there are so many choices. The information here is organized to help you narrow it down more quickly – instead of wasting time researching them all, you can first eliminate those that won’t meet your needs in one way or another.
How We Grouped the FoodSaver Models
NOTE: Prices can change often and without warning. Be sure to click through on any product that interests you to check today’s price.
For our purposes here, the models have been sorted into 3 groups:
The Best FoodSaver Models — Price Range: approximately $125 to $250
These are good quality vacuum sealers with lots of features to make them both versatile and user friendly. They work with bags or rolls and also have an accessory port to accommodate sealing of external containers.
See comparison chart and more info on these models below.FoodSaver GameSaver Models — Price Range: approximately $100 to $200
As the name implies, the GameSaver line is designed to hold up to longer running times needed by outdoorsmen. These models work with bags or rolls and have an accessory port for external sealing. They are quality machines and a good choice for anyone who does batch processing. We created a separate page for the GameSaver models. This link opens in a new window so you can go see them without losing your place here.
For complete information see “Compare FoodSaver GameSaver Models”-
Low End FoodSaver Models — Price Range: approximately $50 to $100
These FoodSaver models offer only the basic features. They do not have accessory ports and are not as easily adaptable for delicate or moisture laden foods. These are a good choice if you plan only occasional use.

The Best FoodSaver Models
Overview of the Best FoodSaver Models
Best Models Features:
- Accessory Port
- Included Vacuum Hose
- Internal Roll Storage
- Bag Cutter
- Removable Drip Tray
- Moist/Dry Food Settings
- Delicate Food Setting
- Maximum Bag Width 11″
The chart below shows FoodSaver’s top of the line models. These are channel (suction type) vacuum sealers, and each model includes all of the features listed above.
The Accessory Port and Vacuum Hose allow for external sealing, making these models the most versatile. FoodSaver makes reusable vacuum zipper bags for storing items such as deli foods so that you can keep them fresh longer but still open and reseal as needed.
Having the accessory port also enables you to use FoodSaver accessories (sold separately) such as FoodSaver Deli Containers, Quick Marinator, and Wide-Mouth Jar Sealer.
Note that the GameSaver models also rank among FoodSaver’s best units, and they have many of these same features. As well, GameSavers are built to run for longer periods without overheating, allowing you to process in larger batches. The only features you do not get on a GameSaver model are the settings that let you adjust for moisture content or for delicate foods.

Low End FoodSaver Models
Overview of Low End FoodSaver Models
As with all kitchen appliances, sometimes the best choice for someone else is overkill for you. These FoodSaver models offer only the basic functions, which may be exactly what you want.
These are considered entry level models and work best for those who only have occasional use for a vacuum sealer. Sometimes they are also chosen by “beginners” who just want to give vacuum sealing a try. That might not be a bad idea, as long as you keep in mind that there can be a huge difference in performance level between the high end units and these models.
Also note that these models used to be very inexpensive (one for as low as $25). The prices have now increased so much that they can no longer be considered bargain models.

Hi there, Thanks for this review. I was interested in a model that could one could do multiple seals without waiting between for it to cool down. Appreciated any recommendations. Thank you.

Hi Jane,
Thanks for your question. Please see the FoodSaver GameSaver Models comparison chart. Those models are designed to work longer without needing a cooling off period, which of course works better for hunters, gardeners, or others doing batch processing.
For super heavy duty processing you would want to look at a high end chamber vacuum sealer. See our Chamber Vacuum Sealer Comparison Chart, or read about the VacMaster VP215 Chamber Vacuum Sealer with Oil Pump here.
That said, please be aware that the demand for all types of vacuum sealers is huge right now. Many models are in short supply and hard to find. My reviews always include links to the best price I can find, but if what you want is sold out be sure to check Walmart.com or your other favorite online retailers. Unfortunately I’ve seen some outrageous prices due to the shortage. My advice is just to be sure you choose a well-known, reputable seller and know their return policy before you buy. With Amazon and Walmart, that means look at who the actual seller is. If a product is listed as “Sold by ______”, click on that seller and read their policies.
Hope that helps,
Susan

Dear folks, I am looking for an available model of foodsaver (not necessarily new!) that has parts that are DURABLE and will last for several years. I already have vacuum jars and vacuum hoses. But from the reviews, many of the newer models have parts that wear out quickly, and that is what I want to avoid.

Please compare differences between food saver model numbers VS3150 and VS3180
Susan LaBorde says
Hi Zachary,
As far as I can find, the VS3150 is an older FoodSaver model that is no longer available. You might possibly locate one on Ebay, and you could ask your questions there before you buy.
Best,
Susan
